Q: What does your class look like?
A: See photo on this page
Q: Are Masking, Proof of Vaccination or Capacity Restrictions in place?
A: Smart Shot follows all Public Heath requirements. At this time the requirement for Masking, Proof of Vaccination and Capacity Restrictions have been lifted. You should expect to be sitting at a 10-foot table with three other people. You will also be using training firearms in close proximity to other people and that others have handled. You are welcome to wear a mask but it is no longer a requirement. Hand Sanitizer will be provided.

Q: What can I bring to class to make myself more comfortable?
A: We have worked hard to provide a comfortable environment. You will be sharing a 10-foot desk with three other people. We ask that you be considerate and not bring any large bags etc. If you need to bring a large bag then it will need to be placed in our storage room until you need its contents. If you have downloaded the study guide then you will want to bring a phone or tablet to read from. You may also bring your lunch but note there is no microwave on site so bring a cold lunch or a thermos if it’s a warm lunch. Please be considerate of others and do not bring food with strong odors.
Q: I have no experience; can I still take the course?
A: The course is designed with beginners in mind. It teaches the basics of Firearms safety and assumes that you are starting without any experience.
Q: Can I take just the Restricted Course?
A: You need to have completed the Non Restricted Course or have a PAL with Non Restricted privileges to take the Restricted course.
Q: Can I hunt with a Restricted Firearm?
A: Hunting is not permitted with a Restricted Firearm. Reasons permitting you to possess a restricted firearm are: Lawful profession or occupation, Target practice/competitions , Part of genuine gun collection.
Q: How long is the Non-Restricted class?
A: The Non-Restricted class is required to be no less than 8 hours of instruction (not including breaks, lunches or exam time). Our classes typically run closer to 9 or 9 ½ hours to make sure everyone is comfortable. Classes start Friday at 5:00 PM and run until between 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM Friday Night and then we start up again at 8:00 AM Saturday Morning. With the practical exams being done one person at time, the last person should expect to be done at around 6:30 PM. These times are an estimate only and they can run longer. If you do not pass and choose to do a retest then the time will be longer. Weekday classes have a different schedule.
Q: How long is the Restricted class?
A: The Restricted class is required to be no less than 6 hours of instruction (not including breaks, lunches or exam time) if it has been more than 30 days since you took your Non Restricted class. If it has been less than 30 days since your Non Restricted class then the instruction time is 4 hours. Our classes typically run 30 to 60 minutes longer than the minimum to make sure everyone is comfortable. Classes start at 7:30 AM Sunday Morning. Q: What if I don’t pass?
A: If you do not pass then you can retake the exam one time only for a cost of $ 60.00 plus taxes. You will need to wait until all other students have completed their exam before doing your retake so this time will be added to the overall amount of time you are in our facility. (See above question for timing).
Q: Does taking the course get me my license?
A: To obtain a Firearms license you must apply to the RCMP through the Canadian Firearms Program. Before you can apply you must take the Course(s) for the license privileges you wish to obtain.
